Brembo's Expansion into Southeast Asia
Brembo has always been known as the top choice for brakes, from high-performance sports cars to cutting-edge motorcycles and rugged UTVs and ATVs. The company's braking technology is considered top-tier.
Recently, Brembo has made moves to enter the mass market with the introduction of the Bybre brand and the acquisition of Spanish brake specialist J.Juan. The company is expanding into Southeast Asia's manufacturing hubs with a 40-million-euro investment in Thailand.
The new production facility in Rayong province, south of Bangkok, will focus on motorcycle braking systems for manufacturers in Thailand. Around 150 people are expected to be employed at the facility, with operations starting in the first quarter of 2025.
CEO Daniele Schillaci stated that the ASEAN market is crucial for Brembo's expansion initiatives, especially in the two-wheeler segment. The investment in Thailand lays the groundwork for further business developments in the ASEAN region.
Motorcycles play a significant role in daily mobility in Asia, with countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines having more motorcycles and scooters than cars on the road. Brembo's motorcycle business contributes about 13 percent of the company's revenues.
Brembo joins other manufacturers and component suppliers in Thailand, such as Ducati, BMW, Triumph, Bridgestone, and Michelin, who have set up facilities to cater to the growing demands of the Asian market.
